Please join us for the 1st Annual “Drop, Cover, and Hold On” earthquake drill on October 21, 2008 at or around 10am. The drill will commemorate the 140th Anniversary of the 1868 Hayward earthquake.
The 20-second earthquake drill is an opportunity to plan learning activities, discussions, and demonstrations that will increase understanding about earthquakes and prepare and remind students and staff to respond safely to earthquakes.
The drill begins when the instructor shouts “Earthquake!” at 10am. Students and staff will be instructed to DROP onto their knees and crawl to COVER under a table, desk, chair or table and HOLD ON to a leg of the desk, chair or table until the shaking stops (after 20-seconds) and further instructions are given. Download flyer.
Earthquakes in the Bay Area are inevitable, but damage from them is not. Taking steps before, during, and after earthquakes will help make you and your students and employees safer. Follow the 7-Steps to Earthquake Safety.
Beginning Monday, October 6th: Follow the 10-day, “Be Red Cross Ready—One Minute Preparedness Announcements.”
