1868 Hayward Earthquake Commemorative Event at Mission San Jose, Fremont, CA
U.S. Geological Survey, 1868 Hayward Earthquake Alliance
This public commemoration of the 1868 Hayward earthquake will be held on the front steps of Mission San Jose on the 140th Anniversary at 7:55 AM, the time that the quake struck the San Francisco Bay Area. The 30-minute program includes representatives of the 1868 Alliance, City of Fremont, Mission San Jose, and descendants of 1868 quake survivors. The Mission San Jose High School Band will provide live music, Father Joseph Nguyen of the Mission San Jose will provide a blessing, and a reception will be held following the brief commemoration.
